Ealing, London based four piece straightforward Metal band SUFFER NO FOOLS has released its debut EP, called "Songs For The Restless Youth". It contains seven furious and well crafted songs and promises a lot more from this band in the future.
The EP kicks off with "Acheron", a one minute long intro feature which warms you up and gets you in the mood with its ominous sounding synthesizers. It flows seamlessly over into the next song, called "The Bombing Campaign", which lets you spin for about a minute before exploding into a adrenaline filled guitar riff and some clean but grainy vocals. It breaths for a few seconds one and a half minutes in and that way prepares for the rest of the song, which prepares you for what's to come. They repeat this structure a couple of times before going into "Prey".
"Prey" immediately starts all hot and heavy and drags you into the band's little Metal universe. Especially the drummer distinguishes himself in this one with some speedy playing. The background guitar riff during the chorus makes it sound a bit like a children's lullaby, but otherwise no complaints. There's a small but intense guitar solo right before the song bleeds to death with its clean guitars near the end.
"Forgiven Or Forgotten" is just as straightforward as the previous efforts. Guitarist Jamie Newdeck keeps throwing around different but all equally intense guitar riffs., but the drums are becoming a bit boring. Sometimes it even sounds like a drum computer, it's so mechanic. The guitar solos are each as strong as the last, though, and add a little Heavy and Thrash Metal side to the music.
"Abyss" best moment comes right at the beginning, when all instruments except for the guitar fade away for a couple of seconds and you just hear this awesome riff and nothing else. Otherwise it's not a bad song at all, but there's not really a lot else worth mentioning, except for, once again, a great guitar solo.
"Dirge Of The Old Gods" is a bit more of the same, but with less riffs and less changes of pace, yet it's one of their best and most energetic efforts on this EP. They end on a strong note as well, with "Into The Breach" and its great guitar driven middle part. A thrilling first effort from a band you're surely going to hear from in the future.
