All Things Are Equal In Death
Subconscious

SUBCONSCIOUS are a Prog/Death Metal band from Germany in the well known spirit of bands like DEATH, ATHEIST, CYNIC etc. So, as you can easily guess, some of their basic elements are the odd tempo parts, combined with Heavy Metal riffing, some jazzy ideas in order to enrich the whole output and vocals that might remind you of the late Chuck Schuldiner.
Hopefully, the way they combine and filter their influences is mature enough and hence their stuff doesn't sound any imitative of the aforementioned artists. The riffing is good, the 'prog' parts are very smart and the not-very-brutal-yet-not-clean-either vocals fit the songs pretty well. Moreover, the guest saxophone solo as well as the guestVictor Smolski shredding lead certainly add to the final result.
As for what could be better, I think that the soloing could be improved a bit since although not bad, it isn't something special and sometimes tends to become a bit too much even for a Prog fan. Also, the production - however clear - doesn't sound as aggressive as I'd rather it was. But, anyway this is a bit subjective I reckon.
