Stuck Mojo - Southern Born Killers album cover

The land of the free and the home of the brave as STUCK MOJO say. The land that haunts (in a good way) every single song they have composed, every single move they have done. This band has never hidden its devotion to their country, something that makes some people disagree, while others love them. I am not here to judge their political beliefs, but their brand new album that has really stuck in my CD player and doesn't want to leave.

Even some of you may not believe it, STUCK MOJO is not a new band. These Rapcore freaks have been formed in 1989 and have been delivering funky hellfire ever since. This band has managed to play live along with acts like TESTAMENT, CLUTCH, SEVENDUST, PANTERA, TYPE O NEGATIVE, LIFE OF AGONY and many more. My opinion, if you don't know them, better get in touch with their music as soon as possible.

The only thing that seemed a bit odd to me was the band has signed a contract with Napalm Records, a label that has absolutely nothing to do with this kind of music. Except if STUCK MOJO are having second thoughts about their career and have decided to release a folkish Black Metal album or something like that. Anyway, let's get straight to the point.

The American metallers (?) are showing their true strength from the very first song. I'm American is a classic STUCK MOJO tune with heavy guitars, groovy rhythm section and nice flows from the band's singer Lord Nelson. I have been into the Hip Hop and the Rapcore sound for some time and these guys managed to make me fall in love with their music with their amazing Rising (1998), which is their best album to date in my opinion. The album keeps the high level of musicianship in almost every song, with the exception of one or two songs that didn't fit the album's mentality in my opinion.

Anyway, Southern Born Killers is definitely a pretty strong album with a great amount of heaviness and groove that will satisfy all fans of the band. And for those who don't know them, but listen to bands such as BODYCOUNT, LIMP BIZKIT, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE and stuff like that, this is a more than good buying option. Check them out and you have nothing to lose.
