Skur 14
Strange Horizon
Metal maniacs, rejoice! I am proud to present to you: STRANGE HORIZON; signed via Apollon Records, hailing from Norwegian grounds - performing Doom Metal, on their sophomoric full-length studio album entitled: "Skur 14", (released May 26th, 2023). Since formation in 2017; the trio in question have a demo entitled "Sonos Aestas MMXVIII" (released November 2nd, 2018), on top of 2 full-length studio albums in their discography so far entitled: "Beyond The Strange Horizon" (released May 6th, 2022) & this here 2nd album of which I am introduced to entitled "Skur 14". 4 tracks ranging around 34 minutes; STRANGE HORIZON arranges an intricately designed formula on some heavy-hitting Doom Metal developments.
Opening up with this acoustic; ethereal introduction of otherworldly static, a beer cracks open until this rampantly rompy thud of rumbling reverberation & sulphurous yet volatile remedy showcases monolithic tempo amongst an amplified adrenaline in boisterously bouncy hooks... forging a concretely gritty foundation in borderline firepower expertise that rollicks with profusely robust substance within "The Road". Organically fabricating a hybrid experimental rift on rip-soaring yet venomous injections in infectious bass audibility's from flickering thumper Lindesteg, this vibrantly potent surge of zestful solidity trembles speakers with dense calamity and chugging frolics... distilling a chiselling fluidity on wildly rushing grooves in which tower with systematic shreds that are incredibly catchy.
"Cursed And Cast Out" flamboyantly distorts a gnarly tonality on technical precision; riveting through with somewhat melancholic virulence & sludgy momentum, manifesting this rambunctious execution in galloping drum hammerings from Eirik T. Arntsen... who stomps the set with steely smacks that ramify with persistent perseverance amongst a blistering barrage frenzy in pummelling virtuosity. This pounding masquerade salubriously portrays a dexterously dynamic finesse in crescendo building tremolo patterns & weighty tightness that slays with primitively raw slabbiness on solid seamlessness, as "Candles" clamours eardrums with mellifluous distinction... distinguished cords from Qvillio's pipes yells with shouty throatiness, harnessing a clean aesthetic in high-pitched singing meticulance that's rather meaty whilst uproariously quirky.
Nimbly contrasting; a euphonic calamity in mountainous songwriting musically prowess's you with versatile vehemence within the 15-minute finale epic "Tusser og troll suite, closing the record with atmospheric ambience and bulldozing ebullience... brimming a healthy dose in harmonic entrancement that's spellbindingly ritualistic & majestic all at the same time. Overall; I am compelled to say that STRANGE HORIZON offered an immersive Doom Metal performance that supplies unique transparencies within this subgenre of choice, a justifiable juxtaposition of rocking Heavy/Doom Metal mergers rigorously pursuit with vigorous strike - worthy of spinning should you fancy a flexibly fundamental fix of strident strife awaits here, do check it out.
