It's not common to see a band coming from New Zealand, but STOMFORGE came to show us that the land of hobbits also produces great metal bands. The band was formed in 2012 in the city of Auckland, NZ and since day one they started working on their powerful, epic and different kind of Power Metal. These guys released their newest EP entitled "Madness and Might" just recently.
The EP has two songs and let's start with the first one, which is "Madness and Might" and the one that gave its title to the album. The song starts out with a windy sound in the background, then some killer guitar riffs comes in cutting the sound of the wind and it feels a very exciting song. I love the riffs from the stanzas, it even reminds a little bit of some Black Metal or Melodic Death Metal riffing vibe. The vocals are really good and fits perfectly the song, as you start to feel really powerful while listening to it. The high point of the song is the chorus, which will make you bang your head, sing and probably feels like going out on an adventure. I cannot deny the drums and bass, because they sound really metal and sometimes with this Rock N' Roll vibe, which gave the instrumental parts a great mix. It's definitely a great song.
The last and next song from the EP is called "Star Descended" and it starts with some guitar riffs, solos and a killer drum completing the chaotic epic sound. After that, some traditional Heavy Metal guitar riffs comes in, creating the perfect ambiance for the virtuous guitar solos that will hit you right before the singer joins in. The melodic vocal lines and riffs of the stanzas are pretty cool and catchy. I loved how they can mix different kinds of Metal into Power Metal, creating a very different kind of sound among this style. The guitarists should pay attention, because there is a killer guitar solo parts and then there is a calm part, with clean guitar sounds and deep vocals. It was just the band preparing you're for their epic grand finale.
I must say that STORMFORGE did an amazing job in this epic "Madness and Might". They manage to innovate among a style that sometimes sounds the same. The production was tight and the execution of each instruments were pretty damn well done. It's a band that has a lot more to show and I hope to see they on the road soon.
