STOP HITTING YOURSELF are a 3-piece hardcore band based in Nottingham. This is their second demo that was released on April 2015.

After hearing the demo, I felt underwhelmed. The band doesn't sound thirsty enough, like they want this to get in the favour of a record label that will sign them to a nice long-standing record deal. They are clearly still at their infant stage and I will talk about that below.

Right off the bat, you can tell quite easily which songs were recorded later and which were their older songs. "Blinded By Buckfast" sounds so distant and frail. I am able to see the potential in the track. It has a very interesting riff, I particularly enjoy how it has a riot vibe to it, the instrumentals sound anarchistic and the vocals are really rebellious and energetic. The only pity is it did not have the right recording equipment to shine. In comparison, "Turn To Stone" has a much better production and mixing. The guitars are more upfront and dirtier. However, this was more of an interlude right smack in the middle of the Demo as a way to weave one track to another.

"Heisenberg" is pretty much your typical Metalcore track: Breakdowns, double bass, the likes. The band tried to stand out at the 3 minute mark by adding Nu-Metal style rapping at the end which honestly is just cringe worthy.

At the end of the day, this is just a demo: something created by an up and coming band to garner the attention of potential record labels. The sound is far from perfect, but that is not the point. A demo is created to turn heads, but this band has failed to do so. It simply sounded too mediocre and nothing interesting comes out from this. Hopefully with few years more of practices, they can release something that interest me.
