Stonewood - Stonewood album cover

Not to be confused with the female fronted five piece band from the good old USA that dives more into Country Rock. This is like comparing Apples and Oranges at best. Hailing from the old country, this 5 piece Italian Band started in 2014 with a few demos including an earlier version of ''Space Goat''. Note to the readers out there, the album cover from this new album is literally a goat in a space suit! It's pretty funky and it does catch your eye in the first place. Fabio Meschini did a fine job on the artwork and I kind of like to be honest.

First of all, the vocalist has a distinct voice, you really have to take your time to get used to it in the forefront. Vito Vetrano mixes the angst driven style of the Grunge Era mixed with the stoner rock typical vocalists. It's a very weird mix and it took me some time to enjoy the vocal stylings. It's still up in the air for me, sometimes I really enjoyed the paradox, sometimes it just got on my nerves.

The music is ok, nothing ground breaking. It mixes the Grunge elements from STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, a bit of NICKELBACK (yeah yeah...I know) and newer Heavy Stoner Rock bands like MONSTER TRUCK. I never really heard a mix of these two styles, I thought it was a pleasant surprise. I am not really of a fan of Grunge Music even though I was part of that era back in the day. Most songs are interchangeable but they really have a distinct sound and that's one hell of a compliment. Maybe other bands will follow in their footsteps because they may have created a new distinctive sound. I am not the biggest fan of the mix of both styles but I thought they were really original. I thought they were American when I first heard them and was surprised to read that they are actually from Italy. It's a very refreshing band and the album really flies by. A more than honest effort from a very promising band.
