StoneDivision - Six Different Places album cover

It doesn't matter what genre of music it is; nothing that comes out of Sweden ever lets my ears down. Hard Rocking Swedes STONEDIVISION fire off round after round, a very much Metal-infused brand of Hard Rock, releasing an album that can bridge the gap between rockers and Metalheads. Interesting enough, the band is largely masterminded by Oskar and Niclas; the album's name comes from the fact it was constructed in 6 different recording studios, and assembled by a great array of musicians.

"Halo" was an excellent choice as the band's first music video and single. Coming off initially as a purebred Hard Rock track, it, like most of the other tracks, evolve into something much more metallic. Truly, one of the highlights of this band is the ridiculously great voice of vocalist Oskar, nodding towards the vocal styles purveyed by DISTURBED and BREAKING BENJAMIN; combining aggressiveness and percussiveness with soaring melody-lyric progressions. "Time" is almost as close to Heavy Metal as this album gets, though still primarily a Hard Rock track; heard mostly in the faster and more technical drum and guitar playing, and nonetheless managed to seamlessly blend aggressive and powerful singing with extremely catchy vocal melodies.

"The Unknown" brings forth a much more tender side to the band and is, for all intents and purposes, an emotionally moving ballad dominated by strong acoustics. Oskar proves his ability to stray away from raucous Rock vocals and project a much softer atmosphere through his voice which is inherently pleasant. Build up after build up, the song builds up into an emotionally-intense arm-waver. A melodic and catchy facet of the band is brought out in the track "Angels", which emphasizes wailing guitars and drawn-out vocal notes. Not even Rock genres can escape the immortalized, truly 'Scandinavian' sound of twin harmonized guitar solos, and such a beauty is witnessed again in this track.

If you're expecting lightning power metal or extremely technical Prog Metal, you have come to the wrong band. If you wanted a symbiotic relationship between power, heaviness and emotion that is equilibrated in nature, with an exceptionally talented vocalist, then take a break at STONEDIVISION's new album.
