Steve Harris - British Lion album cover

The first time I heard that Steve Harris would release a solo album I was really excited, more so than when Adrian Smith announced his collaboration known as PRIME ROCK REBELLION, mostly because Steve Harris was never known as a side project kind of guy, the thought on my mind was: What to expect? IRON MAIDEN 2.0 or something completely outside the realms that he has been usually associated with, like Progressive Psychedelic Polka Folk music. But then the usual interviews started to come up and we were told that it would lean more towards his inspirations as a musician growing up on the streets of Great Britain. Either way I was fully confident on this man, as he has had my trust for years as the leading man behind the band that initiated me in the world of Metal.

First off this is not a Heavy Metal album, this is a pure 70s Hard Rock album sounding much like THIN LIZZY or UFO, great songs filled with melodies and hooks allied with Steve's identifiable bass sound and lyrics, the guitars are amazing, the only thing that threw me off was the vocals, on the first songs Richard Taylor's singing are emotive and beautifully done but by the middle of the record it becomes quite annoying and tiresome, as his whining-crying vocals start to get under your skin.

All in all this is a good, not great, record, it is not the kind of album I would listen during hours and hours, it has some good songs on there, but like any good Hard Rock album (in my personal taste) doesn't have much longevity.
