STAR ARK is the Progressive Metal project of Neil Flavelle that's coming from Australia. The project managed in a short time to release one EP and debut album named "Imperfectionus", which released in 2011. 3 years after, the band is releasing "God Complex Avatar", their second and brand new album.
The album opens not so well with "Prey". It's a confusing song, too long, and mainly the instrumental and the vocals are coming each one from another galaxy and they have no connection between them. The only word that can describe the song is just a big mess. "Lunavore" is really a big party of Progressive and it contains some crazy guitar's parts. But the problem of the song that it is too instrumental, the vocals are rarely heard in the song and its makes it weaker.
Some say that if the song is not good enough, so it better be dead. This is why I don't understand it's "He's Got A Great Job" defined as a demo and also found in this album. This setting sounds like an excuse that I did not like. But its definition justifies itself; the song is actually a demo that should have gotten a little bit more thought. I really don't understand the presence of this song here and its even seems like it is set only to complete 6 songs in the album.
"The Human Clone" is the heaviest and the best song in the album. Finally we managed to see a song that respects itself and finally we see a song that went into it thinking. But the problem is something that I don't know if it's really a big problem because I personally do not mind, but the thing is that the song is not a Progressive song. Yes it contains a lot of genres and that is something that I really liked but still it's tending otherwise from the rest of the album's songs.
"Mars Attacks" is another nice song. A very colorful and powerful song with amazing guitar parts that making the song to be a party of Progressive that not afraid to use a lot of instruments to paint the song. "Evacuate" is the album's classic guitar outro that could have a large potential as a song but this is the artist's decision.
In the bottom line, there are some good parts in the album especially because of the amazing guitar's parts, which made the album what it is. But I think that still the album could have sound a lot better if it was getting enough time and enough work.<
