In South America, the evolution of Metal genres is not as usual as it can be seen in the USA or Europe. There are loads of musical conceptions and ideas influenced by regional thoughts that turn things into something unexpected. Today, when dealing with Doom Death Metal insights, people always think about what is heard on releases as "Gothic", "Turn Loose the Swans" or "Serenades". But the Chilean quintet SPORAE AUTEM YUGGOTH is coming to show what they're about with "The Plague of the Aeons".

As the Chilean scene seems to have deep Old School roots, the band's musical work can be described as a brutal and oppressive mix between the nasty and aggressive Death Metal insight of traditional bands as DEATH and POSSESSED with the slow paced tempos and bitter ambiences of names as BLACK SABBATH and WITCHFINDER GENERAL. Of course that such way was done many times in the past, but these guys are up to something different, using sour melancholic parts into such aggressive approach, something not as usual as it can be told. It's truly good, indeed. The band recorded and produced the songs itself, leaving the mixing to Juan Drey Saffie and the mastering to Juan Correa Migliano. They created a sonority that is bitter and has that Old School raw insight of Doom Death Metal, but in a way that can be understood by the listeners. It could be better, but it's good as it is.

As they still need to mature a bit more (but keeping these elements used in these songs), they have a great potential to be used, as can be heard on "The Malignant Observer" (a putrid slow ambience, with nasty guitar riffs and very good grunts, but some contrasts can be heard on it), "Crawling Towards the Tyrant" (on this one, they use some refined arrangements, reinforcing the sad and melancholic appeal, with very good work on bass guitar and drums), "Teleport to Obscurity" (a deeper and nastily melancholic song, oppressing the ears of the listeners with such very good guitars) and "Cathedral of the Abuser". All their songs last more than six minutes, so it's a bit hard for non-used fans to deal with their work. But for those that are already fans of Doom Death Metal, this EP really deserves to be heard (and acquired).

SPORAE AUTEM YUGGOTH comes in a good moment, when many think that elegance and melancholy are all that Doom Death Metal is about. And "The Plague of the Aeons" is really a good surprise.
