SpitFire - Devil's Dance album cover

If you like fast cars, choppers and Rock N' Roll you are in the right place, SPITFIRE hailing from Germany, started their career as a local support for German Punk Band SERUM 114, however rapidly they were able to stand their ground and to release their doubt album "Devil's Dance". SPITFIRE plays what I like to call Metal n Roll, meaning Heavy Metal / Rock N' Roll Anybody said VOLBEAT?

The album starts with "Go!" and just like the song title, it's time to go and Rock n Roll. The first songs immediately express SPITFIRE style, fast riffing and great vocals, "My Way" continues the same style of "Go!" with fast riffing and some punkish guitar style playing.

"City Of The Sinners" shows some diversity by SPITFIRE, more VOLBEAT style riffing, less speed and some nice use of full strumming with acoustic sound, this usage of guitar strumming continues with "Kings Of Rock N' Roll", such a classic song, probably everybody wants to be the King of Rock N' Roll.

"Hellfire" incorporates a heavier riffing that is similar to MOTLEY CRUE rhythms and plenty of usage bends and bass, one of the best songs in the album no doubt. With the same heavy and palm muting riffing comes the best song in the album "Burn In Hell", an epic song for the band and will probably be their anthem in live shows.

Honorable mention goes to "Roll The Dice" with a more mellow strumming and nice riff pattern, again the vocals are very good and Dick Dropkick is doing great job not only in this song.

SPITFIRE are on the right track for success, but they will have to deal with two major things. The first is to differentiate themselves from bands like VOLBEAT, no band wants to be remembered as wannbies. The second issue is to keep going the diversity in the album, Metal / Rock N' Roll is a very tight genre with limited space to move, I think that SPITFIRE venture more into the Hard Rock realms like Swedish ECLIPSE or even FREE FALL, no doubt that they should find their unique sound. Nevertheless "Devil's Dance" is a solid album for the fans of the genre, let's hope that SPITFIRE will not fall into the second album pit, I think that they will do just fine.
