SpiteFuel - Dreamworld Collapse album cover

SPITEFUEL is a Heavy Rock band from southern Germany. The founding members are all in tact with the exception of lyrists and vocalist Stefan Zörner who mutually parted ways with the rest of the band on June 19, 2018, just after their release of "Dreamworld Collapse", their sophomore effort. "Dreamworld Collapse's" predecessors include a single "Sleeping with Wolves" released in 2016, the year they formed and their debut release "Second to None". "Dreamworld Collapse" comes in with twelve tracks and a listening time of 54 minutes. Regardless of the outcome of this album, with an exit of a lead vocalist, this band has some changes afoot.

The opening track "Prologue: 8389 A.D." comes in as a bit of white noise with some interference. This lasts for almost a full minute, building in its presence. We then get our first sounds of instrumentals that brings in the spoken word. Reminiscent of someone speaking over a loud speaker, telling of the past and of the day everything changed. For the rest of the 20 seconds held within this track we are swept away by the same instrumental into the second track "Brick By Brick". This track comes in with a guitar solo that once it moves into the meat of the track the drums remind me of KORN, straight off the bat, but that's where that comparison ends. This track is your straightforward Heavy Metal sound. The guitars are phenomenal, as are the drums. The bass is a favorite though. While the guitars are really stunning, the bass play makes this track. The vocals are not my favorite. They just feel lackluster here. They aren't exactly bad, but there isn't anything exciting about them.

"Ouverture: Inside the Sphere", track four, is sort of spacy feeling and there is an addition of some keys and orchestral that twists itself back into guitars and drums. I adore this instrumental and its incredible transition into the first of the title tracks "Dreamworld Collapse, Pt. I". Now, the opening guitars here remind me of something BFMV would do. The music, again, is just phenomenal. Everything works together unparalleled and again, the vocals just aren't up to par with musicianship shown in this album. Except, for the almost growls that present themselves every so often. Track six, "Interlude: The Funeral of Youth", is composed beautifully. This instrumental could be used as a score in a movie. It feels like it should be one. The writing is simply stunning with a final word "Nothing ventured, nothing gained." thus, leading us into the second part of the title track "Dreamworld Collapse, Pt. II". The vocals in this one, are more suited for the type of music expelled. At least for the first minute and a half. However, the bass really gets to shine in this track. Super chunky and not buried under everything else. They are perfect. I mean everything else is really good too, but that bass though. Ahh perfection.

"Under Fire", track nine, brings the speed in its opener. It slows down a bit, but still allows for some of the speed precede the beginning and rears its ugly head again with just over a minute left in the track. The overall feeling is more of an anthem, feel good track. The final track "Epilogue: 8427 A.D." leads us out as the opener lead us in, apart from the use of a piano leading us out in this track. There is the same speaking from the beginning, but as you can tell from the opener, we are now 38 years later, and thus a story was born. A story written on that life spent. SPITEFUEL's "Dreamworld Collapse" is masterfully written and will appeal to almost all Metal lovers. The musicianship is astounding. The vocals, for me, weren't a great fit for the music created. That being said, some people will find enjoyment from them. However, I am extremely excited for the future of SPITEFUEL and hope they find a vocalist that packs the punch to take the excellent music they create to the next level. The music is masterful and is absolutely deserving of a listen.
