Spit Like This - We Won't Hurt You (But We Won't Go Away) album cover

When a band is being voted by Kerrang! mag as the best unsigned band...there you go...you have your first hint NOT to be so excited. Five years ago singer LORD ZiON and ViKKi SPiT met and realized they were full of ideas in order to make an album. The first EP was released thanks to ViKKi's used panties, which were sold on eBay!!! The fourth EP, with a catchy tittle "Sleaze Sells...But Who's Buying" made SPIT LIKE THIS widely known to the British audience and in November of 2008 their debut album "We Won't Hurt You (But We Wont Go Away)" was released. Yes, it is this very album I am reviewing, with the only difference that this one is a special edition with bonus tracks, bonus posters and a bonus video clip from GMR Records. Unfortunately, or not, no used panties are included.

Moving to the music, SPIT LIKE THIS is a fusion of punk, mostly, with goth elements and some glam. For example "Dead Girl Walking" is filled with goth melodies, "Heart Thief" turns to punk while "Pussywhiped" is a punk-goth tune and "Hunt You Down" absolutely dark and goth. These last two are quite interesting actually, probably the most impressive tracks of that release. Having listened to this album for 5 times and then checking the band's MySpace page I had the chance of listening to a couple of tunes that are not included in this album. If you listen to "Rebel Lover" - which musically goes somehow back to T-REX - and "Obscene But Not Heard" then you will acknowledge this band and as the sound and the tunes allow you to notice the musical abilities of its members.

A cover from "Sweet Transvestite" is included and isn't nothing special, firstly because the band did not try to bring the song to its own standards. When something like this happens, when you are making no critical changes in the cover song to add some of the band's character, the audience - despite if you want it or not - expects that you will have vocal abilities such as Tim Curry has (also known as Frank n' Furter). This release did not impress me and furthermore I have to convince Riff Raff to send my last memory of "Sweet Transvestite" far in Transylvania.
