"Bitten" is such a simple album when it comes to the instrumental and vocal work such as bands like NO DOUBT, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, WHITE STRIPES, VELVET REVOLVER, SOUNDGARDEN and many more who just want to make things simple but awesome so everyone will like it and "Bitten" is the perfect example for a simple rock album but awesome! Why make things so complicated?! I love the vocal effects; SPIDER ROCKETS made the vocals sound like it was recorded back in 1979 which is why I compared them to WHITE STRIPES.
Let talk about the instrument work: The guitar riffs are ok. I mean some of the track where sort of boring and made me feel a bit tired. I heard these kinds of riffs billions of times so I would have liked it if the guitar riffs are a bit different to make it unique to SPIDER ROCKETS. However, the guitar solos are awesome! There is nothing simple when it comes to these kinds of guitar solos especially. I don't know; it's just fit perfectly! For those who don't know, I'm not only a fan of great vocals but also a fan of base sounds and so the credit goes to the bass sounds. Finally I find a Rock band that gives the stage to the base! Bravo!
So, vocals; I have already wrote about the "old fashioned" vocal effects. Helena Cos Has a strong vocals and reliability- I'll give you that, but when it comes to vocal range it's beyond poor. In the third track "Scream" you can hear that Helena has no air when she sings "I want to scream!" and of course, no vocal range... It's a bit of a problem for a Hard Rock band. But she kick ass with this powerful vocal nature- this is how Hard Rock vocalist should sound like. She's got the attitude and the nerves. Besides the fact that she had a poor vocal range, what more can you ask?!
I'm not so sure about the concept behind "Bitten" because it has no chronological order of things at all, no sense but I'm pretty sure that when SPIDER ROCKETS called this album "Bitten" they meant: "We will bite you in the ass"! (Or at least this is what I believed in).
In conclusion, great album! Be careful not to get "Bitten"by the SPIDER ROCKETS because it's "Better When It's Loud"!
