Spider Rockets - Along Came A Spider album cover

SPIDER ROCKETS began life as a duo playing ever dive bar in New Jersey and New York. They soon expanded into a full lineup and hit the studio. "Along Came A Spider" is the band's fifth full length album following 2012's "Bitten". The band has a very eclectic sound that needs to be heard. The album starts out with "Rip Your Heart Out". The band produces a rockabilly type sound with Helena light vocal stylings with harsh subject matter. The track is catchy and more on the pop side than metal, but I enjoyed it all the same.

The band hits a little heavier with the track "Adore". They never venture to heavy, but the vocals have more weight in this song. This again is another catchy song that you will get stuck in your head and find yourself singing. "Hey Hey" comes in with a nice guitar riff. The music is on point in this song. Helena's light voice adds to the song to give it a pop meets rock sound that you would expect to hear on the radio. I really enjoyed this song the music with the vocals stuck with me.

"At Odds" slows it down and throws more emotion into the track. The weight of the song is felt by the vocals being less light and poppy. The music is almost somber compared to the rest of the album. This song really draws you in to hear the what the lyrics are saying. "Heartbreaker" is a cover of the Pat Benatar classic song. I appreciate when artist try to take songs and give them a more rock or metal twist. The music is on point with the original just a little heavier. However, I don't think the vocals hit with me. The light sound in Helena's voice doesn't give the song the rawness that you get with the original. I applaud their effort, but I think it just falls a little flat.

The album ends with one of the heavier songs on the album "Sick". This song is the highlight of the album. Everything clicks from the music and the vocals to bring a nice song. The vocals meld wonderfully with the music the lightness is toned down and more rawness can be heard in this great song. Overall, I enjoyed the album from SPIDER ROCKETS. I think some of the songs were really good, where others the vocals didn't seem to fit as well. I liked several parts of the album to the point I will probably dig deeper into the bands catalogue to see what they have to offer. I would definitely give them another listen and so should you.
