After some brief switches to the band's lineup in 2013, rising metal stars Spellcaster released their self-titled album on July 1st. 2014. The band's first album, Under The Spell was widely acclaimed in 2010 and stands well on it's own, but doesn't have the same enthusiastic sound as they exhibit in their new album.
With their latest release, the band seems to have found new energy and a new musical voice. Every track is pure, classic, heavy metal. Boasting strong Vocals with fantastical lyrics and backed by melodic riffs, shredding guitar solos and a very skilled rhythm section. Tracks like "Run Away" and "Ghost of My Memory" are two of my favorite tracks and do a great job highlighting the bands' skills. Spellcaster proves that they are a band capable and worthy of carrying on the tradition of heavy metal alongside bands like Iron Maiden and Queensrÿche. Every track on Spellcaster will have you involuntarily banging your head, pumping your metal claw, and doing those weird metal spirit-fingers.
The sophomore album is a well-polished achievement that won't disappoint. The band is celebrating their new release with a music video of their single "Run Away" and kicking off their "Darkness Falls Over North America" tour. The tour will take them from their hometown in Portland, Oregon on July 26th, which will take them through the Oregon and California and will continue through parts of the Northwest and Southern United States ending September 1st in Ashland, Oregon. Spellcaster preserves the traditions of classic heavy metal and is recommended for any metal fan.
