SPELLCASTER and "Night Hides the World", this is a band I accidentally stumbled upon one drunken night and bought their music and loved it from that point on. Watching this band break into a good size Metal label with Prosthetic Records was amazing to me and here we are talking about their new album on said label.
The album opens with "Aria", a great fast paced opener that will quickly get any Heavy Metal/Thrash Metal fan in the mood to move. The song quickly showcases the talents of the band between fast hard hitting drumming, shredding solos and riffs and Tyler Loney's powerful and hypnotising vocals. "Night Hides the World" and "The Lost Ones" are roughly the same pace, a bit slower than the intro and feature a more melodic taste, these are the kinds of songs that would fit into the middle of a live set after fans have warmed up and need a bit of a breather from the high energy movements a lot of SPELLCASTER's songs have.
"The Accuser" is a few songs down and it's back into top gear for this one. The song is almost reminiscent of a lot of European Power Metal, fast drums, and high vocals with a lot of power behind them. I know the description is fairly vague but anyone who listened to European Power Metal knows the difference between them and the North American sound. Closing out the album is "Prophecy" and SPELLCASTER don't hold back on this one. Every sound you've heard through the album thus far is shown off in full throughout this final act, if you needed an idea of this band to judge them; this is where you should go. The riffs and catchy, the vocals dominate and the song is from the heart, it doesn't feel hollow and meaningless.
SPELLCASTER wrote an album that has soul, has emotion and has meaning which is something you can't always say about bands. This is a band who clearly loves what they're doing and you can hear it in the way they write and play, nothing on the album sounds like a filler song, everything sounds like it should be where it is and fits in perfectly. "Night Hides the World" is the bands first effort on Prosthetic Records and I think they proved their place.
