Raw Deal (EP)

When you refer to British monsters BLOOD MONEY as a straight influence, then draw inspiration from early EXCITER for your cover artwork and - finally - present a music sample owing a lot to Speed Metal mentors JAGUAR, it's no wonder you can get a straight 'A' and triumphantly pass the test. Ah, and - no other way - your name connects to speed, of course. Here's SPEEDTRAP from Finland, aiming to break your neck (to put it straight).
Checking again the Scandinavian map, it's SOLITAIRE who push Speed Metal to the limits in a razorous way plus we witness newcomers ENFORCER flirting with the leather-and-spikes dimension of European Metal flavor; ARMOUR's traditional Metal blend and CAST IRON's wicked velocity are to keep in mind, too. Kinda related, but preserving their own style, SPEEDTRAP raise voltage from the British power board and the rest is quite a result of common sense. Fans of JAGUAR, BLOOD MONEY, RAVEN, TANK, FIST and DIAMOND HEAD should not fear investing in this release (out on CD via Thunderkinights Records, limited to 500 vinyl copies - 150 x red/black splatter + 350 x black - via High Roller Records).
The guitars spit fire, the drums and bass pound like hell, the vocals are near being high-pitched having a Rock base, the overall result is more than impressive and the vibe springing from this six-track EP is 100% proper without even resembling to anything near the late 'true' Metal scene. An experienced ear is not difficult to assume this is a new band playing traditional music; here we do not have any copycats wasting your time.
Fans of the fast side of NWOBHM, Speed Metal maniacs and whoever's interested in music from the heart and out of trends are welcome to enjoy SPEEDTRAP and their neat music. I do not know if the Speedtrap EP is stillavailable in CD format, though. Maybe it's time you buy (again - or dust out) a good turntable.
P.S.: If you see any resemblance to the juvenile sweat of METALLICA's Kill Em All landmark LP, rest assured the American quintet drew way more influence from the NWOBHM era than you've ever imagined...
