Cogito Ergosum
Sparky Quano

Sparky Quano is a solo guitar player and first solo guitar player from Sonicbids Promotions EPK series. He makes all the sounds on his record with a guitar, which should automatically intrigue you, in my opinion. Then it also says is mostly an instrumental album, which automatically sets off a warning in my brain. I normally do not care for instrumental albums that much because I lose interest for whatever reason without vocals. I am willingly to bet the same thing will happen, but who knows?
Fight starts off some pretty cool riffing, but there this is weird static sounding riff or effect in the background keeping beat. I am not overly impressed by this static sound since it shows up in the second track and is only slightly modified. The riffing that he does over the top of this is more entertaining than the first, but not much. KAYA is an improvement over both of the previous songs particularly because of the main riff that has a very Sci-Fi movie kind of sound to it. I could easily picture aliens abducting you to this particular riff.
The fifth track, Matsuri, has a very enticing chant at the beginning of the song that complements the riff quite nicely. The effects he uses in this track are pretty cool, but I feel like they could be used in a better way. The chanting because something weird by the end of the song it is very un-cool. A totally kick ass riff that reminds me of Vai/Satriani, but then that chanting from the last track comes back; this time it is louder and more annoying. I am not sure what language it is because it is pretty distorted. Then in track 7 there is a bass line kind of sound thing going on, but it totally sounds like a PRIMUS rip off from Too Many Puppies. It was at this point when I realize that I there this no way to salvage this review and turned it off.
To conclude, I know this kid has gotta have talent because everyone is talking about him, but I just don't hear it. Maybe it is because I am overall not a fan of essentially instrumental album, but it has gotta be something. You may wanna check this out if you normally like instrumental albums, but I found this to be pretty boring though I can tell there is some talent there. Perhaps his EPK is correct and that you need to see him to fully absorb his music.
