"Heaven's Gate" is the third album from Swedish Melodic Death Metallers SOULDRAINER. Taking their inspiration from bands such as AMON AMARTH and RAMMSTEIN, they have released a very high quality album, sure to please their fans.

Album opener "The Quest" is perfect to let you know what you're in for. Edvardsson's brutal vocals, staying true to the Death Metal genre whilst also being comprehensible, are great to listen to. Coupled with his guitar playing, Wassberg's bass, and Malkki's drumming, they produce a sound all of their own. SOULDRAINER may look up to other bands similar to them, but they don't imitate them and as a result bring something new to the style. Bearing in mind this is their third album, they certainly know what they're doing, and "Heaven's Gate" serves as an indication of the fact that they're at the top of their game.

The last two songs of the album are a little bit different from the rest, but still very good. "Heaven's Gate" is the longest song, clocking in at just over seven minutes, and contains some spoken parts. But it still contains all the trademarks of the band, and is definitely a stand out track. The last track, "Tools Of Torture El Parador", is actually a bonus track and it's a little more tuneful, and 'lighter' than the rest of the album, although still pretty kick-ass. The songs do well with some alternations between the heavier stuff and some quieter stuff, but not so much as to take away from the overall feel of the album.

"Heaven's Gate"is a very accessible album, and I think even those wary of the Death Metal label should give it a listen. The vocals are appropriately heavy and brutal, but still understandable which is a major positive for this release. Definitely one for fans and not yet fans alike.
