If I am not mistaken this album came out in late 2009 (December I think) but its review was late for various reasons. The fact is that SOUL REMNANTS are here with their self financed debut album, after two demos and they seem ready to conquer the world (or just the Metal music scene). Can they do it though?

The Massachusetts, USA based act unleashed its first ever full-length album, approximately 42 minutes of Death Metal mixed with some slight Thrash Metal elements. The sound in "Plague Of The Universe" varies, since the US quintet drags influences from the pioneers of the genre, something that means you have chaotic Death Metal outbreaks (MORBID ANGEL), "rotten" heavy parts (OBITUARY) and thrashier old school moments. The sound is pretty good if you have in mind that this is a private release and a debut album, which means you could find many weaknesses.

The vocals are also as bestial as they should be to complete this brutal massacre. One more thing I really liked in here was the totally Heavy Metal approach of this music, which means no hyperfast or ultra-technical parts just for the sake of it, just catchy mid tempo Death Metal with some faster aggressive breaks and some damn fine Metal solos, hehehe!

As I said above, "Plague Of The Universe" is a pretty good work for a debut album and I guess that if SOUL REMNANTS have the support of a good label and a "strong" management in the near future they can do much more things. This could be considered a huge album if it was released by a well known Death Metal band. A glimmer of hope for the future of Death Metal I guess...
