That Is My Cry
Sons Of Thunder
I have never been much into religion as long as I remember myself as a kid, nor I am today actually. Though I have been against of what religion can do to people, as there have been numerous factions that over the years have been corrupting its fine base of its existence without even bothering to just and think about their doings. I am not referring to any particular religion as all known religions were corrupted in one way or another. However, as far as music goes, especially Metal and Rock, there is that fine line of Gospel and shows that religions still holds something dear, precious, tender and loving. Through bands such as this one over here named SONS OF THUNDER, the musicians show their appreciation, admiration and love for their particular lord and saviour, Jesus Christ. Their second album, "That's My Cry", releases as a self-financed album, came into my laps and I was happy to discover it. Though I have to admit that I heard much better and energetic Gospel Metal / Hard Rock outcomes such as STRYPER, HOLY SOLDIER, DELIVERNANCE and others, yet SONS OF THUNDER took their music into rather gentler areas while still keeping their rhythms heavy and sound modern.
In overall, SONS OF THUNDER has been making a fine mixing of traditional Metal music infusing it with rough groove features of the present with blimps of Hard Rock and Country music. Though at first it came as a little shock, I understood rather quickly why they also gathered Country into their music as this is an American thing and a great idea to capture the hearts of plenty more listeners and future fans. I would say a good decision and a fine twist into Metal music. Furthermore, SONS OF THUNDER didn't let this addition take hold of their Metal / Rock perception. The material itself is rather easy to comprehend, the music is vibrant, accessible, most of the songs are catchy, several pretty obvious and predicted but made rather well. I didn't feel that much from the band's vocalist that sang without too much feel in his voice, or sensed the power of the lead guitarist (also due to an overall bad productions of the entire album), yet even still, there were songs that stood out showcasing the band's well abilities in the range of "That's My Cry", which turned out to be quite deep as a well done mix of Metal and Rock with a rare occasion where the vocals scoured through my soul looking for food. I sensed a lot of heart on this one and the composer's deep affection to his lord and savior. "Keep On Keepin' On" is a simple and to the point catchy Hard Rock hit, rhythm based mostly with a nice solo and basic structure. Hard Rock 80s meets late 70s oriented dish. "Calling Armageddon" is the album's heaviest song, and I could also sense it by the strong title and premonition made by the lyrics. SONS OF THUNDER enslaved groove Metal into the punctured traditional style already contaminated by modern elements, yet it turned out massive and great listener. The clincher, "Kick Out the Stained Glass Windows", made me grimace a little as I haven't heart a true Country song for a long time, I have to hand it to these guys, it sounded rich.
SONS OF THUNDER, with their latest creation of "That's My Cry", walked into the path of the righteous with pride and glory. Their album took turns between Metal and Rock in such a fashion that made me like it even if I am not a religion believer. Whether a religion person or not, I urge you guys to check this one out.
