Sonic Pulse - Larger Than Life album cover

Boston based beer guzzlers SONIC PULSE have released their Speed Metal massacre of the forlorn. This laconic license to thrill is a technical stab at the skull which will hammer Metal into your heads. Prepare for the pounding evil swill to penetrate your soul, as the raging rhythms ravage your brain, and the ludicrous lyrics cast you under their demoniac spell.

Their trashed and annihilated anthems are actually well-executed, and fans of TANKARD, MURPHY'S LAW, MUNICIPAL WASTE, and other inebriated random acts of violence and bloodshed will want to slake from their uncanny six-pack sense of humor. Their thunderous Metal canon of drunken wisdom will truly intoxicate.

At the witching hour, just in time for Halloween, these horror hounds released the clever video for the larger than life-like portrayal of "Bong Zombies". With each joint being savagely ripped apart, I spilt my guts, roaring with laughter.

Each song title is full of wit and reeking of putrefaction. The chemical invasion on the senses is enhanced by the grisly guitar shredding of ex-Vindicator member Mick Mayer and the systematic storm blade slice of David Carlino. Each cut - a magnificent mourning afterburner - brews and bubbles over with heated fermentation and excitation. Each inhuman axe rampage is enacted with a vibrant force which never drags on, or breaks down, but rather grounds and pounds like an ultra beat down.

The induced stage drunk driving evokes the same feel I get when I hear the fury of the storming Herman "Shred" Li and Sam "Heimdall" Totman shred on stage. This should come as no surprise since these wasted youth perform a killer cover of one of my favourite Demoniac cuts - the very band the "Sonic Firestorm" duo founded in the valley of the damned, all the while pondering and pouring over the myths of Metal.

"Eye Of The Beerholder" - another tongue-in-cheek - libation of liberation actually has some quality soloing, and timely drum matriculations from Joe Bollettiero. Ex-RAZORMAZE guitarist David Carlino pines with the true speed of steel. Meanwhile Dan Hammer pays his contract in blood by shouting with beer-leagured belligerence, rather than pounding with bottled-violence in his other band SKULL HAMMER.

Choosing to cover GAMMA RAY is another odd choice, beyond all bleak expectation, wholly done quite well. The production is a bit grainy, and cloudy. Then again given the haze the band find themselves in, is this not to be expected?

If you savor the true thrashing bands of Boston, who avoid any Metalcore associations, and echo their ancestors like MELIAH RAGE, FORMICIDE, WARGASM, and even the current inclinations of SHADOWS FALL, then come partake, and let down your hair as these dog-damned talented lick kings of beer, Metal, and madness sound the SONIC PULSE.
