SOLLERTIA is a three-piece Progressive Metal band, formed by members and former members of multiple bands (IN THE WOODS, EWIGKEIT, and AD INFERNA). Their combined years of musical practice puts them in decades of Metal mania, however SOLLERTIA, band, is very young. They just released their first full-length album "Light" in 2017. This album comes in with eleven tracks and a listening time of just under 55 minutes.
The opening track "Adducantur" is a short almost two-minute piece that starts of low and slow. As the sound builds the feeling remains low. At about a minute in, the guitars and drums come in, but still keep that same low feeling. They fade out into a background sound, softly transitioning into track two "Abstract Object Theory", opening with the similar soft swirling sound. Track two is much heavier, but as (what I believe are) the keys bring in the track, it is light and airy, until very clean but low pitched male vocals lower the track back down with help from the guitars.
"Enter The Light Eternal", track four, is very soft and the vocals follow suite until about 30 seconds in, where the track turns incredibly Rock anthem-esque but much better. It takes a second to get used to, because while there is an anthem within, the track is dark. The music is heavy. The lyrics are light-filled. It's an interesting track that did take a second to comprehend, but there is so much there to enjoy.
Track eight, "Dark Night Of The Soul", is deep. Not in a heavy way. In fact, this track was pretty airy and flowy in that respect. The vocals are deep, but the lyrics mixed with the emotions that are emitted here create a deep feeling track with a lovely touch of musicianship.
The final and title track, "Light", is a short, just under three-minute short, track that is full of nothing-ness until 1:00. At that point, we get a Progressive ending anthem that shows a little bit harder style that could also mix well in Epic styling. This instrumental show cases the light at the end.
I am a little torn with this album. The production isn't fantastic. The vocals sound layered on top of most of the tracks and the sound quality seems a bit muted (this could be purposeful, though). The music is really great, and vocals are good: they are interesting and fairly unique. The potential for this album to be great is there.
