I personally think, from the name alone, you can tell what this band is all about. SOLDIERFIELD is such a Modern Metal band name, and I don't know why I get that idea but I do. I'm not going to lie, I didn't like these guys at first, but it took a few listens to really appreciate the music and enjoy it, and that is why you should always give a band a chance, 'cause they may grow on you. Unless that band is BOTDF, in that case, turn them off before your ears bleed.
Anyway, SOLDIERFIELD are a UK based Metal band consisting of ex-PARADISE LOST drummer, Jeff Singer, ex-RISE TO ADDICTION vocalist, Leigh Oates and ex-RISE TO ADDICTION guitarist, Steve Wray. Also some lesser known names to my knowledge, Andy Trott on guitar along with Wayne Banks on bass.
Their new album, "Catharsis" isn't exactly a short album, with the overall play time being around 51 minutes, which is a decent length for a decent album. But this album is a bit more than decent, it fucking rocks! The sound is filled with the heavy guitars, crashing drums, kicking bass and powerful, melodic vocals, which all deliver some great songs and great performances with lots of energy to get an entire venue bouncing.
The song writing is impressive and some of the riffs are pretty damn awesome and if there's any band that SOLDIERFIELD reminds me of, it's another Modern Metal band known as FURYON. I won't go into detail why, just go check them out too.
Now, I feel I'm getting a little carried away with the Modern Metal side of this band. Once you really analyse the music, you can really start to notice some old-school Metal influences, and well, of course there is, vocalist Leigh Oates was a part of the band that was started by former Blaze Bayley guitarists, John Slater and Steve Wray so, evidently, there's going to be a strong old-school Metal presence in this band.
Conclusion: Check this band out, they're modern enough for younger Metal fans, but old enough for your more aged Metal fans.
