Who are SMASH THE BRAIN? Is there a label called Spiritual Beast? It seems I will have to find out by myself. Let's not forget that this is the magic of Metal. You come across unknown stuff, you explore and you discover brand new things. It doesn't matter if they are bad or good. The experience is what's left in the end.

SMASH THE BRAIN is a Japanese melodic Death Metal band that just released its third full-length album, and if I am not mistaken, its first through Spiritual Beast Records. There are no interesting stuff to be mentioned here. Only a couple of line up changes and some releases like 7'' EP's, mini CD's and a demo.

First of all, I would like to inform you that we have to deal with a Metalcore album (or melodic Death Metal for the ones who don't want to accept the word Metalcore). This album is full of melodies, distorted and clean vocals, relentless drumming and a bass that just accompanies the other instruments. I have already said my opinion on Metalcore bands and this one is worse since the production is not even mediocre and the compositions are nothing special. The first thing a Metalcore band takes care of is the sound. If the sound sucks, then the band sucks. I really don't have many things to comment on Construction Of Despair. It seems like I have to deal with five guys that are just playing for fun after all. Even their site is in Japanese! If this is what you call professional, then I am the Metal God!

I think that Construction Of Despair is one of the most boring albums I happened to listen to this year. Mediocre Metalcore? It definitely sounds like your worst nightmare! Better go for something else.
