SLUTVOMIT is a Thrash Metal band with heavy Death and Black leanings. They're an American band out of Seattle, Washington up in the Great Northwest where things are cold and wet and apparently provide fertile ground for the breeding of violent, explosive metal. For those in mourning for the inevitable retirement of SLAYER, you can take heart, SLUTVOMIT is here.  The last time we had a full-length album from this four-some was six years ago with "Swarming Darkness." In October this year they unleash "Copulation of Cloven Hooves," their sophomore album.

With "Copulation of Cloven Hooves" not only does the band continue to emulate their signature style of 80's hardcore Thrash, they effectively capture it in motion by recording on reel to reel. For collectors, I think this is going to be a vinyl must. The album is a searing 45 minutes across nine tracks. Your woofers may never be the same, and your neighbors will hate you forever.

The first track, "Command of Triumph/Genocide Lust," is a bit misleading. It starts with a haunting melody accompanied by a ground shaking combo of bass/church bell/down-tuned power chord that portends a black-metal-evil-void-storm is coming to claim your soul. I would say that's the "Command of Triumph" part of this song. And then it turns into just what it promised, and I think that part is "Genocide Lust." The song is brutal and unrelenting. I say it is misleading because it sets the album up as a Black Metal foray. This impression stayed with me until about halfway through "Scythe of Mass Destruction" when the Black Metal veneer gave way to its savage cousin, Thrash. This crushing amalgamation of styles continues, adding Death and Doom into the mix.

My standout tracks were "Copulation of Cloven Hooves" and "Acolyte of Death's Destruction," both of which are multi-movement, Doom-tinged pieces. For those looking for more of an adrenaline rush, "Baphomet's Call," and "Sepulchral Dawn" will not disappoint. There are no tracks I would call regrets. The album is a consistent barrage of metal fury from the first haunting riff to the final quick fadeout.

For those looking for a special treat, you'll recall SLAYER's cover of "Dissident Aggressor" originally by JUDAS PRIEST. Where DAVID BOWIE reacts to the Berlin Wall with the bittersweet "Heroes," JUDAS PRIEST reacts with the bloodied fisted "Dissident Aggressor." Several notable bands have covered this classic since its release in 1977. SLAYER's rendition is exceptionally savage; HALESTORM's is clean but still visceral; and SLUTVOMIT's, yes SLUTVOMIT covers this massive classic, is just brutal, brutal, brutal. Apparently, the band recorded several covers during "Copulation of Cloven Hooves." I can't wait to hear the others. SLUTVOMIT delivers with "Copulation of Cloven Hooves." In an age gone weak with an over-preponderance of [fill in the blank], it's good to have some no holds barred, unapologetic aggressive metal.
