Slob - Deepwoods Shack of Sodomy album cover

Death Metal acts sometimes forget one important feature of the genre: the lyrical themes. Of course anyone has something to say and wants to put it in the lyrics. But sometimes, one can miss those sick and disgusting lyrics focused on themes as gory horror films and comics. But sometimes one band arises and shows such sickening themes that fit with the musical aspects used, as in the case of the British duo SLOB with their first release, "Deepwoods Shack of Sodomy".

Their work is a form of Brutal Death Metal with a sick insight in the vein of names as MORTICIAN and MACABRE. Of course, it's nothing new at all, this same formula was used many times before, as the contrasts between fast brutal parts with slower moments adorned with extreme low grunts. But the band shows potential to make something better in the future, because their music is full of life and energy. The band brought Sasha Borovykh to make the mixing and the mastering of the album, trying to make something with low instrumental tunes and aggressive to the bones, but with a defined sonority, and it works. Obviously some tunes could be better (especially due the programmed drums), but it's good for now.

The band still holds a lot of potential to be turned into music in the future, it's clear after hearing songs as "Squeal Like a Pig" (a massive set of guitar riffs can be heard on this one), "Deepwoods Shack of Sodomy" (a catchy set of arrangements can be heard, giving support for the extreme low grunts used), "Alligator Death Roll" (fine contrasts between fast and slow parts), and "Pitchfork Puncture Wounds", and it's a matter of sharping better the efforts on the next time. For now, they're very good, but able to blast ears of in the future.

SLOB is a good promising name for Brutal Death Metal acts, indeed. Take a bit of "Deepwoods Shack of Sodomy" and hear it for yourself.
