A collaborative project between ANTIMATTER singer/ songwriter Mick Moss and PAINTED BLACK guitarist/ songwriter Luis Fazendeiro, thanks to the internet two musicians in two separate countries can push their ideas together and form a new act in SLEEPING PULSE. This UK meets Portugal duo deliver a 10 song effort that will appease those who look for the eclectic, Atmospheric side of Alternative Rock - contrasts, serenity, and slow building frameworks the game plan here.

The electronic moments blend seamlessly with Mick's somber, slow leading melodies - check out "Gagging Order" or "The Blind Leading the Blind" as the sparseness will carry a lot of weight for fans of recent ANATHEMA or his current work in ANTIMATTER. There are certain sections where Luis throws down a little bit of electric distortion for a heavier/ darker vibe - most prevalent in the highlight "Noose" and the instrumental / lead break section of "Backfire" - but I would say overall SLEEPING PULSE are not a Metal band at heart, and that's okay.

Mick as a vocalist just possesses the right amount of airy breathing and self-control, engaging the listener in more of a hypnotic state through his lower and mid-range register. The whole album gives both musicians the right connection to explore their ideas in different shades and context, yet never becoming too Progressive as to carry beyond people's heads. 55 minutes later, most will return to the first song again to engage deeper into the swirling echoing sounds of "Foreign Body" on through to the piano oriented closing title track.

It's uncertain at this point if "Under the Same Sky" will be a one-off recording or if these two musicians will summon their creative forces together for a follow up effort. For now, SLEEPING PULSE has plenty of appeal for those who like the lighter, ethereal side of Alternative, Atmospheric Rock.<
