Growth, Decay, Transformation

Remember how I mentioned in a review I did a long time ago that Hardcore, Metalcore, or whatever genre it was I said I never wanted to hear again? Well unfortunately the time has come for that to be thrust upon me once again so, I shall steel up my courage as a music journalist and do what I must to give this promo a fair chance even if it is from a genre I am not all that big on.
The promo in question is the debut EP from the band SLEEP INERTIA who are new band that came out of members of the English based Metalcore band THE DEAD LAY WAITING two years ago in 2013 and now two years later in 2015, their debut EP, "Growth, Decay, Transformation" is ready to be heard by the world and I am going to give this one a fair chance to see if my mind can be changed about genres that end with core.
Clocking in at around 19 minutes across five tracks, the debut release from SLEEP INERTIA is a short release that you could probably spin once if you have some time to spare before going somewhere but you'll be quite glad it is short. Then again, you'll be quite glad if you make it through all five tracks without turning it off during play.
Why did I say that? Any concerns or prejudices I had towards Metalcore, Hardcore or any genres that end with the word core are still intact as this is still music that does not appeal to me personally. I mean I will be kind and give the band some credit for their song writing skills as there are some good powerful riffs, some good musicianship and some surprisingly decent production on this short EP but there are still things about it which bug me.
I guess the vocals are always going to be the main issue for me as they are always going to be too growly, too shouty and too savage meaning I can never really make out or understand what is actually trying to be sung by the singer. I get that it is a part of any the 'core' genres so I do sort of respect it for that but personally, I like to be able to hear the words so I know what the lyrics are about but it's a lost cause if I can't hear them properly.
Bottom line, the debut EP from SLEEP INERTIA isn't as bad as the other releases I have reviewed which are all in what I will dub the 'core' genre as it does have some surprisingly redeemable qualities and features as mentioned above but it is still a genre that I personally will not really be able to get in to. Don't let my words put you off however because if this is the type of music that you as individual like then by all means pick it up and give it a listen as you may like it more than I do which I am totally fine with so no complaints there.
