SLAMMIN' THRU was born in Spain late in 2002 by the current members. The band recorded their first demo in 2005 and played many venues in Galicia, Spain. Following their many nights in venues, they recorded their first EP "Disguised Queen". They are back with the release of their debut full-length album "Things to Come". Classic Rock, Progressive Metal, and the 80s-90s Rock scene influence this release.
The opening track "Metallic Leaves" starts with that lovely Progressive a la Classic feel. It was hooking and engaged me immediately. The guitars are low and saturated the drums are almost overpowering. Not in the sense of that's all you hear, but they stand out in a unique way that puts them in a position of power. The bass is superb and is a real leader. It keeps the elements together, but also provides irreplaceable elements to the track, itself. The vocals are very 80's Metal that leans more on a power level.
Track three, "Disguised Queen" starts off with a little guitar feel good and it leads into even more feel good from the bass and drums. The drums quicken and the guitars lower. This track is an ode to the old ways. Old Metal with newly redefined boundaries, this track takes me back in time, even though, this track isn't back in time. This is what the ultimate destination for music is.
"Break", track four and interlude, is a small 35-second acoustic instrumental piece that beautifully leads into track five, "Undisclosed". While usually I would say that the break between the two tracks is distracting, somehow it works here. "Undisclosed" is a faster track that incorporates many new aspects of their sound. At about 3:40, the track tones way down and shows us, yet again the creativity these guys have. This little session in the track makes the entire track memorable to me and will keep me wanting to listen to this track.
The seventh and final track, "Seeing Eye", is the longest track on the album at about seven and half minutes. Starts off low and steadily gains in power and speed until it explodes with sound. This track shows off many of the skills in one track that is heard throughout the first six tracks. At first, you'd think it would be overwhelming and too much to have so much in one track, but it's not. There is plenty of room to show off here. The bass comes to life. The drums are a heartbeat. The guitars are the life sources and the vocals give it that push. This track is written beautifully. This is definitely the highlight track of "Things To Come".
"Things to Come" is a good Classic Progressive Metal album. I believe that if the sound quality in production was better, this album would have rated higher. You can hear the creativity and intelligence that was put into it. Give it a shot, especially if you like 80's Metal Power singer meets a Progressive Classic Rock.
