Skyeart - Being Between Sky and Earth album cover

The Brazilian Heavy Metal scene is a land large and fertile. You can find excellent bands playing since the genre's inception, like ETERNA or Death metal, like the giants KRISIUN or even Power Metal like ANGRA. I'm here with the first EP from the progressive band called SKYEART called "Between Sky and Earth". Basically, they are an instrumental band, because they don't have a fixed singer - they called on Gus Monsanto (ex-ADAGIO, ex-REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE) to sing it.

They did themselves justice on their first effort, with a brilliant album cover and production The power trio (they don't have a bassist; Hells recorded all the bass lines) play above the average and show to everyone here that they are fantastic musicians and can surprise you. It's a concept album treading modern philosophy - Hobbes, Schopenhauer, Kant, Nietzsche and many others - about humanity and our anguish when we restricted and hold onto false institutions. It's a complex theme clearly approached by Hells - the lyricist - and interesting.

Let's talk about the tracks. It's an EP and just contains 5 tracks with each over 6 minutes long. The first track - "Conspiracy and Lies" - had interesting initial riffs from the guitars from Hells and Miranda with influences in John Petrucci - DREAM THEATER guitarist - sometimes. Gus Monsanto is internationally famous in the Power/Prog scene, because he worked with Stephán Forté and Timo Tolkki - both guitarists from ADAGIO and ex-STRATOVARIUS. He had a beautiful timbre and it's hard to get bored of it. The keyboard ambiance is very strong in this trackm although the band doesn't have a rostered keyboardist. The second track, "Freedom (Between Being and Nothingless)" had a strong Power Metal influence with a cool pace and guitars and keyboards fighting for the spotlight.

The third track, "Human (All Too Human)" is a heavy track with the - oh, damn! I really like keyboard but it's starting to get old! - Good riffs and solos and amazing tempo. The chorus is notable and it's the highlight in this song. Now it's time for "Geviert". For me it's the coolest track from "Between Sky and Earth" with much stronger Power Metal elements. And the last track - "Embodily Soul" it's a lovely ballad breaking the entire heavy atmosphere showed until now. It's the perfect way to finish this album.

If you expected a lot of break tempos and solos from all instruments showed here, you will probably be disappointed. However, it's their first EP and they had everything to prove to us all they could make fantastic works in the future.
