Vicious screams, fully understandable. Extreme growls, Math Core based '' jumping riffs'', brutal industrial parts, furious breakdowns, pure blistering technicality, clean vocals singing about murder, afterlife, death. Both vocal works are fantastic on the first song on the album entitled "Scarlett Road." It also has some chilling and haunting ambient moments that slowly follow the cleans and the fading growls. The song contains more scream -like vocals, a ton of mini guitar solos, and a bunch of those extreme Core -ish riffs, which usually don't last long because they are crushed by the technical ones. Off to the second song, which begins with a scary yet beautiful violin intro, which is ripped to pieces by the upcoming vocal work. Slower, sludgy riffs, more haunting fading out screams which are covered by the back vocalists cleans and brutal growls. Technicality everywhere.
SKIN DRONE are a US, Boston, Massachusetts based duo band formed 3 years ago, and finally managed to release their debut full length album last year. They got enough time to make one since the formation, and I must say, the wait was ABSOLUTELY worth it. What you are going to experience on this record can hardly be described. All the feelings you will feel throughout the whole record will make your head explode!! The adrenaline pumping vocals, the riffs, yet the hauntingly beautiful melodies of different non-Metal instruments will put you to sleep...just so you would be woken up by the angry and beast side of this album. "God Complex" was the second song, off to the third "Death Sentence" named one. This one has sweeter bass guitar lines than any other one. The whispering, yet loud vocals are scary as hell. The fourth song '"Shepherd Of The Damned," once again starts with inaudible clicking noise, fade-in screams, clean -paranoid lyrical content vocals, crystal clean, audible and fully understandable, and at the half of the song the screams get higher, which we can hear on this album for the first time. Not for too long though, the growling screams kick in, the loud drumbeats, ripping and tearing your face to tiny pieces. Cleans again, industrial riffs, relaxing and awesome.
You can truly hear the beautiful side of this album throughout the fifth track "Ghost Reflection" which has a both mind and soul chilling melody, sad, yet wonderful. Piano, violins, just enjoying the instrumentation on this song. Some songs even contain high pitch opera like female vocals. The fifth song even contains tribal drums! Where's the end of experimentation for these guys ? Haha. And oh my how brutal the sixth track actually is. I am a witness of the deepest growls on the entire record, SO FAR. The riffs are incredible. They absolutely destroy everything in their way. ''City Lights '' is the name of the track, favorite so far. Nasty grooves show up again and again, but they don't stay for too long. You can clearly notice this is a technical death metal band focused merely on the industrial side of sound, and trust me when I say it, they are really good at what they are doing.
Some songs are less murderous and more chilling than other ones, for example the seventh and eighth songs ("Witching Hour" and "Darkness Within") barely contain any growls and nothing but melodies, and clean vocals, sometimes no vocals at all. Despite all the grooves and Industrial parts, "Darkness Within" is really depressing, but in an enjoyable way. Just listen to the song. The last track is longest one, at 8:48 minutes. It became my new favorite. It shows how awesome and trippy this record is. It contains all the elements, the gems that slowly and proudly hidden in each song, from the roaring riffs, the tasty bass lines, the ambient influenced clean vocals, pianos, violin', opera moments, literally everything an experiment hungry metal fan would like to hear. If you are one, do not hesitate, you will be blown away by this amazing record!!
