Morbid Revelations

For a primarily Death Metal album with early-era Thrash roots, a compilation album at that, it was honestly rather shocking that after the first 3-4 tracks, everything became a blur. The first few tracks had blatant elements of bands such as DEATH (early era), SLAYER, SODOM and even the likes of THE SWORD and MEGASUS, so there was some sounding of promise there. However, the follow-through left a lot to he desired. It quickly became monotonous and rode out as such for the remaining 13-14 tracks. Some of these songs even made the cut twice- "Putrefaction" and "Death Returns". See if you find the irony there.
Whether or not a listener is more into "single" material from albums, surely a desire for stand-out tracks is still present. One would think it'd be much easier to distinguish and appreciate tracks further from a compilation, but the most distinct trait present in honestly the last one as it is just over 11 minutes long. Sure, there were some riffs, hooks and solos scattered throughout, but those were used too sparingly.
Maybe if you just need some high-energy background tunes to push your daily grind by seemingly faster, your doctor will tell you "Morbid Revelations" is right for you. Perhaps your prerogative is simply that you're a Metal cyber-elitist that's still chasing the proverbial "fart" of 1980s Thrash/Death Metal and therefore can't appreciate anything new and innovative in the world of Metal. If so, chances are that you've forgotten that particular era of Metal was once innovative and new too, especially when BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST and other NWOBHM bands seemed like the "be all, end all", right? It sure seems as if every era and style will have their own "MANOWAR" and clone armies that follow. It really is as if a lot of bands fit the guidelines for a "try-hard" mentality all while following the trends set in stone by their idols and influences, and based off what can be heard on this compilation, SKELETHAL's work is no exception. It's quite a paradox honestly.
On a closing note, "Morbid Revelations" has revealed just how morbidly boring blatant tradition can be as well as how easily any statement SKELETHAL may have hoped to make backfired on them. I hope at least the Conservative "True Metal" fans can enjoy this 17-track droning antithesis.
