Awaken
Sinphobia
SINPHOBIA is a Death/Thrash/Groove Metal band based out of Verona, Veneto, Italy. Formed in 2007, this is the bands second full-length album, and contains ten tracks. The brief intro, "Fearless Horde" sounds like a well-stocked army marching outside the city walls, ready to sack it, with drums beating in unison, striking fear into the citizens who dwell within. This leads directly into "Prayer to Warcry." The guitars are drop-tuned and the low end of the spectrum is emphasized with growling Death vocals and a technique that favors rhythmic changes over riff changes. "Groovy Death Metal" is a pretty accurate descriptor. "Guilty of Downfall" is much faster and the riff is more alive. You can hear distinct differing passages and an effort to not stagnate in the traditionally unforgiving boundaries in this genre. "The Punishing Hand" is a strong and fierce song that is a little less rhythmic in nature and instead focuses more on the sheer brutality of the message.
"Respect" has some ambiance and reminds me of a PANTERA riff and attitude back in the day...similar in nature to the song "Walk" when you consider the lyrics. "Face Your Mirror" is close to seven minutes in length. At first, the vocals in the verses follow a seven-note pattern amidst the chaos of the riffing. Later there is varied time meters and the connections keep you on your toes. "March of the Lambs" showcases some advanced musicianship and really tight instrumentation. If you drop out the vocals you can really here what I am taking about. I think the song has a good balance to of hitting you with vocals and instruments equally, not allowing one to take stage over the other. "Tetra (Raw Version)" is a bonus track. I am not sure if this was once a Demo song from earlier work or written for this album. The production definitely drops off a bit as is noted with it being a "raw version." The ELISA cover is interesting. I wasn't able to find any information on this band but I like the song.
Overall it was a good listening experience. The strong suits on the album are definitely the musicianship, and the willingness to explore and evolve throughout a song while displaying a unified product. They do better than most in the Death genre of being inventive as well. I would look forward to hearing them challenge themselves a little more on future releases because I think they have a strong foundation to build on.
