Sinbreed - When Worlds Collide album cover

According to the band's bio sheet, SINBREED has been around since the late 90s. Back then, guitarist Flo Laurin had been making the first and essential steps to give birth to this new band. For this, he joined forces with drummer Frederik Ehmke whose name should rung the Metal bell in your mind pointing towards the German fantasy metallers BLIND GUARDIAN. Along came SEVENTH AVENUE's singer Hebie Langhans and bass player Alexander Schulz who solidified the current working form of SINBREED.

"When Worlds Collide" is the band's first contribution to the Metal scene and it is not a surprise to say that Power Metal is the main issue taking also into consideration the SEVENTH AVENUE and BLIND GUARDIAN references. Now, many of you are already thinking that this might be another predictable Power Metal release that would add absolutely nothing new to the scene. In some extent you might be right, but the musicianship here is in such a high level that this cannot be neglected. Now that I buried the axe of war with the die hard power metallers let me introduce you to SINBREED's music.

The album opens with some nice clean guitar arpeggios that inevitably lead to the distorted sounds of an almost GRAVE DIGGER rhythm section. The fast tempo, the harsh vocals and in time galloping groove highlight the German Power Metal scene in all of its glory. The sing along parts justify the BLIND GUARDIAN references while the double guitar harmonies say 'yes' to the GAMMA RAY (or the early HELLOWEEN if you prefer) additions. The higher pitches of Hebie Langhans bring to mind FIREWIND's Apollo Papathanasio but with additional aggression that makes him ideal for this Metal genre. Despite the fact that this is a debut release the band sound incredibly solid and this works in favor of the more personal sound that I strongly believe SINBREED possess. The SYMPHONY X influences during the self-titled song with the excellent guitar riffs and the almost epic atmosphere can speak more about SINBREED's potentials. The mixture of keyboards and guitar leads hides a symphonic Metal layer in SINBREED's music ("Salvation" is a great example) making it more tempting enhancing the melodic parts. It must be noted that the album features guest appearances from Thomas Rettke (REDKEY, ex-HEAVEN'S GATE), Joost van den Broek (AYREON, STAR ONE) and Morten Sandager (PRETTY MAIDS).

It is not a big secret that German bands have the lion's share in the Power Metal scene and it is nice from time to time to have albums like this to teach the young metalheads and remind the old one who is the boss!
