Sideburn - The Newborn Sun album cover

I was just looking at the cover of this album, the band's name and the whole package in general. It all looks too MONSTER MAGNET to me. You know, classic Stoner stuff with a dose of psychedelic stuff. If I am right about my thoughts on this album, this is going to be a great album and an easy review. Time will show my friends.
Formed in 1997 in Stockholm, Sweden, by Zocek and Penten (former drummer), SIDEBURN showed  their intentions right from the start. The two guys met in a bar and wanted to create music based on Hard Rock and Stoner and Doom Metal bands. The band's first official release was the debut album Trying To Burn The Sun in 2002, through the Italian label Beard Of Stars/Vinyl Magic. This is their second full-length work, this time through the Belgian Buzzville Records.
The Newborn Sun is an album that reveals its intentions right from the start. No incredible technique, no brutal stuff, no extreme stuff. Just groove and melody. Even though this album is characterized by its honest and passionate music, it didn't manage to impress me at all. This band's music is influenced by Hard Rock and Stoner bands like LED ZEPPELIN, BLACK SABBATH, THE CULT and KYUSS. They also reminded me a lot of BLIND DOG, a Stoner band. They have an incredible groove, which is something I like in such kind of bands, but I think the things they play have been played in the past and in a better way. The band shows many good stuff and I am sure they could have released something much better. The band has to find a more personal sound since you will find many similarities with other bands while listening to The Newborn Sun. It is definitely not a bad album but it lacks of many things. I admit I got tired after 4-5 listening sessions. And this is definitely not a good thing.
I hope that their next release will be much better since they seem to have the talent and the capability to do it. Until their next full-length effort, I prefer to listen to some better Stoner stuff.
