SicociS - Requiem of the World album cover

From the glitz and glamour of sin city, Las Vegas, comes Melodic/Progressive Thrash Metal band, SICOCIS, and the band embarked on their musical journey by playing covers in a garage. They have had to contend with numerous changes in personnel before settling on the present line-up. In the year 2011, the band released their debut EP entitled, "Revelations End", and followed it up with their debut full-length studio album of the same name, in the year 2102. The band is influenced by different genres ranging from Melodic Death Metal to Epic Power Metal and Progressive Metal. Since their inception, they have shared stage with bands like DARK TRANQUILITY, INSOMNIUM, DRAGON FORCE and KATAKLYSM, to name a few. The name of the band is a clever Palindrome and a symbol for a circular connection, like Yin and Yang. The ancient Asian philosophy has its influence in the symbol design of the band as well.

The band has created a mix of Melodic Death, Power Metal with Thrash Metal leanings and it is evident in the first track, "Beyond the Quantum Waves", which features clean vocals interlaced with growls. "Dawn of the Final Day (Requiem of the World pt 1)" has a melancholic beginning before a Thrashy riff takes over and the track runs away at breakneck speed. As with the first track, there is a trade-off between clean vocals and growls. "Isolated Salvation" begins like a ballad with a sedate melody and has Thrash Metal roots. The song has quieter parts and the lead vocals hits home with deadly accuracy. The song is well constructed and contains a very competent lead guitar solo. "Principium et Finis", "The Signal Outcry" and "Transitus Novum Principum" are three songs that are short and quite frankly inexplicable. "The signal Outcry" has spoken words about the end of the world; the other two songs are completely instrumental. "Warships Omerta" and "We Shall Rise" are two tracks towards the end of the record that showcase the prowess of the band and the song comprises of crushing heavy riffs with intense lead vocals. "World Torn" is the last track of the record and it rounds off a balanced record brilliantly. The song is epic in parts and Thrash heavy in parts with a sprinkling of Progressive elements in the melody.

The album is layered in its structure and the band has made the tracks an alloy of different genre of Metal. Almost all the tracks have an underlining Thrash Metal feel to it with generous helpings of Progressive and Melodic elements. While the crunchy, heavy guitar riffs give certain abrasiveness to the tracks, the Melodic Metal lead vocals balances the songs ably. The songs are placed well and the middle instrumental tracks provide a respite from the proceedings. This is a brilliant album and is a definite recommend.<
