Constructing the Cataclysm
Shuriken Cadaveric Entwinement
In the hands of the North American School, Death Metal experienced a shift of level due the diversification it had in the first half of the 90's. Many North American bands of the genre on those days expanded limits for Death Metal, and created new and different models that are used extensively today. But it doesn't mean that acts as the North American duet SHURIKEN CADAVERIC ENTWINEMENT has nothing to offer. It's the opposite, as can be heard on their latest release, "Constructing the Cataclysm".
Their music is a form of classic Death Metal similar to that one used by acts as DEICIDE, IMMOLATION and INCANTATION. It's the usual North American Death Metal standard model, but pay attention that these guys bear a musical personality to make things different from the names spoken above. Their music is full of Death Metal hooks, what make things testable (take a hearing to some Death/Thrash influences and hooks on "Breaching the Gates of Tranquility"). Very good instrumental parts, excellent grunts and screams, an extreme care on the arrangements, these guys really know what they want from their music, and it's filled with energy and aggressiveness, but hard to resist to.
Recorded at Audio Helm Studios with Mike Clevenge, the sonority of "Constructing the Cataclysm" is abrasive and really weighty, balancing the distorted and crude approach of the band with a defined approach that allows the fans to understand what they're playing. And it's really a very good result, after all. These extreme Metal samurais (for their lyrics deal with Japanese culture of the past) really created a very good album, and as their best shots, one can taste "Insurrection of the Diabolic" (an extremely hooking song, with excellent guitar riffs filling all the spaces), the oppressive weight of "Breaching the Gates of Tranquility" (pay attention to DEICIDE-like piledriving tempos created by bass guitar and drums), "Insidious Spiritual Incarceration" (another very good set of extreme hooks based on the contrasts between slow and fast rhythms, and what great guttural vocals), "Fragmenting the Profane" (the Death/Thrash Metal hooks are evident on the guitars arrangements), and the brutal and oppressive approach of "Constructing the Cataclysm". But the entire album is very good.
