First formed in 2008, SHOTGUN RODEO first started their journey in 2009 with their first Demo entitled 1st; through this demo, the band would start a journey of their own, which would include their 2012 EP, "Dead end Massacre", and 2013's demo, "Guilty As Charged". Using elements of groove and heavy metal, SHOTGUN RODEO are a band that stands out as a band set for great things ahead of them, and with that said, we see the band bring their first full-length record entitled, "World Wide Genocide".
We start the record off with the track, "Drown". From the start of this track, we are faced with a heavy assault of riffs that introduces the song with a full force onslaught to the listener. The song itself, is a solid example of a band working to create a track that opens their record without any hesitation and without any fear, showing us that with "Drown", the band already has their ace in the hole in terms of a song that will continue to not disappoint if played live. The vocals throughout this song are powerful and strong, showcasing elements of Groove and Thrash, along with this, we have guitarist Don Shrediablo bringing a sonic assault of riffs that, throughout the track, have been the most identifiable, in terms of his technique and style, that without fail, gives us the base of the entire track. I feel that, with his guitar work mixed with vocalist Nino Escopeta that we have a solid foundation to what this song is and what it could be capable of live.
Going on, we head to the record's third track entitled, "Saving Myself". I chose to go to this track next because the opening interested me in a large way, as it starts gentle and calm, showing an emotional connection to something or someone, that is until we get to the main riff, which is both catchy as hell and is pretty addictive, if I may be so honest. The track is very interesting to me just because when you listen carefully to the lyrics, there's a story right there, which feels both personal, but at the same time, almost makes you wonder if the track was a way of releasing negative emotions and embracing the positives, which I really feel this song does. To be honest, this is a very inspirational track, as it could help a lot of people battling themselves inside and out, and with how this track goes, you can be sure that it will do that and so much more. The musicianship on this record is outstanding and continues to impress without fail.
Going forward we head to the records fourth track entitled, "Knock 'em Dead". From the start of this song, the riff just hits you with it's melodic and sinister tones that lead straight in without stopping, though honestly, when vocalist Nino Escopeta comes, in everything just gets insane without question. Through the entire record, I'd have to say this is a close second, in terms of which songs take the lead on the entire album, though, at the same time, this is just a song you can go nuts for. The structure of the song is very similar in ways to the records sixth track, "Withered Earth", as both songs have that hard hitting vibe that doesn't quit for anything, delivering endless pounds of riffs and a vicious amount of bass that hits you in the face; both songs have different ideas, but at the same time, also share a similar type of speed and intensity, which makes them both stand apart from the other tracks on this, already incredible, record.<
