SHAKRA is a Swiss Hard Rock band with 25 years old of pure Rock. They have recently released their newest album "Mad World" and that's what we are going to talk about. The opening song from the album is "Fireline" and it starts out with a traditional Hard Rock guitar riff, but they are cool. The vocals hits in right after the first guitar notes and they are pretty cool, but they sound lower than the other instruments and I think it was when mixing. The chorus is good and its a very energetic song to start the album.
"Too Much Is Not Enough" sounds more modern than the previous song and it has some cool guitar riffs and melodies. The vocals are a little bit more aggressive than the first song. I liked how the song has a more aggressive vibe that even feels like something tense at some points, but at the chorus its a mix of melodic energetic with dark vibe. "A Roll Of The Dice" starts out with a cool and groovy guitar riff that makes the rhythm for a cool solo. There's a nice bass work here when the vocals hits in and I find it pretty cool. Its a very diverse song and it has a great dynamic. The percussion is pretty good as well. I loved it.
"Mad World" is the song that gave its name to the album and it starts out with a nice guitar riff that is soon followed by the vocals, but the drums are pretty cool, even if they are simple, they sound great. The chorus is pretty catchy and yes indeed we are living in a mad world. "When He Comes Around" starts out with a totally 80's Hard Rock kind of vibe and I fuckin' loved it. The guitar riff and solo are pretty cool. There's some nice groovy on this song and it might be a great one to see live. The highlight here goes to the guitar work and specially the guitar solo that is astonishing.
"Thousand Kings" starts out with a more Metal vibe and there's some really cool about the guitar work here. The vocal lines from the stanzas are pretty damn good, but man... they really know how to write creative chorus. "Still Rock" starts out with a really Metal guitar riff full of groove and energy, but then it turns into something kind of bluesy and I really liked that mix. That's a heavy song. "Fake News" starts out with a great guitar riff that will make you bang your head as soon as it starts to sound. There's some calmer vibe on this song and the song alternates from heavy parts to soft ones. "When It All Falls Down" is the song that would totally run during the 80's Hard Rock scene. It have a different vibe if compared to the previous songs, but thats a good thing and show that they can write different kind of songs and still sound like their own. I liked this more Hard Rock vibe of them.
"Turn The Light On" and "Son Of Fire" are both pretty good songs with great riffs, melodies and vocal work. They are great. "New Tomorrow" is the song that closes the album and it starts out with a cool clean guitar sound that is followed by some clean vocals with nothing aggressive to be honest. Its a very beautiful ballad with a truly inspiring guitar solo. They should write more ballads, because they know how to do it.
SHAKRA have written and released a great Hard Rock album full of great songs, melodies, riffs, vocals and chorus. Pretty much everything you need to find on an album like that from the genre. I liked how the guitars sound and the drums, but I think that the vocals and bass weren't that high on the mixing and it kind of killed the vibe sometimes, because it was a little bit hard to hear both vocals and bass at some points of the songs. But in a general way, its pretty damn good album.
