Serpents Athirst - Heralding Ceremonial Mass Obliteration album cover

Upon first listening to this EP single, "Heralding Ceremonial Mass Obliteration" I didn't think I would be blown away this much by a Black Metal band with such brutal sound and consistency. SERPENT'S ATHIRST first full-length EP taking is a massive one and had me pounding away in no time. I thought the sound to be more Death Metal than Black Metal but I guess you can fuse the two, then bam.

With a Split and a Demo before releasing an EP, this will likely be a very short review but a very positive one. SERPENT'S ATHIRST had me going at it on repeat very quickly, their rich and powerful sound is very unique for Black Metal for me, from Sri Lanka, SERPENT'S ATHIRST are a few years old and have delivered an EP masterpiece. I do hope they come out with a full album very soon.

The band seem very underground to find information on, their real names seem to be kept secret which is cool, and there's just not much else to say about them, except if you're looking for something new and compelling, "Heralding Ceremonial Mass Obliteration" is one not to be missed out on.

Beginning with an intro which begins with a screaming kill-zone at war, the EP blasts itself with the most unique Black Metal sound I have ever heard of. The title track "Heralding Ceremonial Mass Obliteration" is a killer in its own right, the sound is so richly filthy (in a good way) it's very hard not to put on the brutal face of approval. The amazingly awesome "Ritual Vomiting" has a similar outing, thrash-tastic power in the drums and riffs and perfect Black Metal vocals, this EP is a short but killer classic. Ending with "Congregation Decimation (CutThroat)" the sound gets me more pumped and hype ending the kill-zone with death and despair. I hope SERPENT'S ATHIRST will come out with a full-length album the band certainly need to bring out soon. In short, if you love an utterly filthy but heavy as fuck sound, seriously, give these guys a go, you'll thank me later.
