Out of the tombs fashioned from a cramped garage in the rustic suburbia of Norrtuna, Järna, Sweden in 2008, it was not long before four musically diverse members dropped a six song demo and an EP titled "Not Quite What I Had in Mind" at lightning speed, both released in 2009. The four piece now resides in an abandoned smithy on the Dark Island of Mörkö, a dark little red house they call home where they are said to never rest, "Toiling away at their next feat." On deck is the bands second full length and it is a blisteringly blackened, thrashy endeavor that is a veritable followup to "Plan For World Domination," which is a wonderful crossover of death metal and thrash.

"Pilgrim" plows straight into the violence with hardcore esque riffage and a thrashy guitar solo, soon introducing the snarling growls that are akin to black metal. "Damned" is a quick two minute pummeling that transitions into "Diamonds," a track littered with skank beats, tremolo picking and a quickened pace that is sure to get even the weakest crowds moving.

"Treasures" has the album take on a bit of a slower, more sustained pace that has a hypnotizing rhythm that is brilliantly accented by the solowork of David Wikström. "Pretoria" is a monstrous track with more sonically charged intensity. When the vocals aren't near spoken word on this halfway point, they are pure shrieks of anguish that add to the overall abrasiveness of the quartets sound. "Kongo" is easily the grooviest song on the album that has a lingering earworm of a building rhythm. "Pilgrim" returns to the ever trusty 2/4 beat and thrashy guitar riffage, stirred in with the sheer diversity of Nils GRZNLS Meseke's vocals. "Karthoum" closes the album in a more upbeat fashion, with catchy melodies and larger than life riffs.

SEPTEKH is overall a breath of fresh air to someone who is not a fan of thrash metal (this reviewer is guilty). The ability these four musicians have to blend multiple seamlessly unrelated genres into a cohesive entity is evidence enough that these guys will be around for quite some time, and their body of work is definitely worth jumping into for anyone with a passion for black/death/thrash metal that also happens to be littered with rock and roll, scant punk rock undertones and even a dash of blues.
