Septekh - Greetings From The End album cover

Swedish thrash metallers began their journey into the world of heavy music way back in 2008. Since then, there's been an impressive catalogue built up, including both Eps and full length albums. The band's style has been likened to MUNICIPAL WASTE, MALEVOLENT CREATION, and other crossover thrash metal bands. I'm guessing this is going to raw, brutal and pulling no punches. Short, fast, intense. My no nonsense, no fluff review is somewhat fitting for the EP's first song, "Flabbergaster". That's honestly how I'd sum up it up. Old school thrash at it's finest. Quite an interesting vocal style. It feels to be more of a melodic death mid range growl, fuller and more stronger than you'd typically hear in a thrash metal act. A delightful addition and excellent contrast, setting them apart from other thrash metal bands.

Much of what I can say for that song also applies to "Comorbidity". Though this song is longer, and expands upon that foundation laid by the opening song. There's definitely a more aesthetic and melodic element to this track, provided by the guitars. The classic clangy metallic bass line we've come to love in thrash is prominent in the mix. Then it's time for the album's title track "Greetings From The End". As a stand alone single there's a lot to admire. That same energy from the previous songs has carried over into this. However, at this stage I'm thinking 'where's the time signature change?', 'are they going to add anything to their sound?'. It does seem to be getting a bit too same at this point. Similar thing with "Nebulous Collusus". In isolation, they'd be fantastic on a compilation album. There are some slower sections in this song, but still it's hard to differentiate them from the others. Still, the guitar work is awesome. Some of those solos work perfectly for this style.

The band have the right idea, especially when they introduce a much groovier riff towards the end of "True Voyage is Return". A little too late though maybe? Production wise, this seems have been done to a reasonable standard. It seems like it's deliberately retrograde to give it that MUNICIPAL WASTE feel, that raw 80s thrash metal sound. That impressive guitar tone is captured and represented perfectly. Unfortunately, I still feel they have a lot more to offer in terms of compositional styles and techniques.
