Hailing from the Bay Area, this is their first release and it's a self-released full-length album. It clocks at over 44 minutes and takes you to a fantastic voyage of musical wizardry. I was impressed by the solid production and they did a masterful job on this one. For a band that decided to self-release an album like this, they have my utmost respect. It shows how much the production equipment has come as to means of quality and quantity as well. Awesome cover album as well, I loved the overgrown trees with the sentient (pun intended) being inside of it with the desolate mountain landscape in the background. Big props to the artist on this one as well.
The first song is an instrumental intro that gave me goosebumps. I felt it sounded like something from the Assassin's Creed games, it was pretty epic but I felt it didn't really fit in with the rest of the album. I guess they could have skipped this one and it wouldn't change much on the flow of the album. The rest of the album is some pretty awesome Progressive Metal mixed in with some Melodic Death Metal vocals. You have alot of sweeping rhythm changes here and there and it catches you off guard but in a good way! I reviewed the band HIEROGLYPH as few weeks back and they brought so much to the table in the Progressive Metal sound and I felt SENTIENT IGNITION really continued in the same way. Sometimes I felt like I was listening to some good old SPIRAL ARCHITECT. A lot of different vibes throughout the album and you have some really nice Double-Bass Drumming and some pretty sweet guitar shredding.
I felt the album could have been longer and at the end I was saying to myself: ''Wait, I wanted more of this!!''. I felt it pass by like an instant and that's a great feeling to have. You want more of it, you don't want it to end. The emphasis is not at all on the guitar driven music, all instruments are in plain view and they all shine at their moments in the album. The music is complex but so enjoyable and the vocalist does a great job maintaining your attention. He sounds a bit like a mix of Randy Blythe from LAMB OF GOD mixed in with Max Cavalera from SOULFLY/SEPULTURA. It was really something different for the style of music they are doing. I felt it was a nice departure from the rest of the stuff I have been listening to lately. A solid release, great promise and really a band to follow in the next few years.
