Existence - DEMO

Well, Sempiternus managed to send me a Demo with one of the most disgusting front covers I've seen in some time. But since they are from Salamina (hell yeah), I don't hold a grudge against them. Can someone explain to me what their name means? Anyway, let's see what this duo has in stock for us...
The band was formed under the moniker Witchlord back in 1998 and so far they have released two more Demo CDs (Soulless in 2002 and Forsaken in 2004). In June 2005, two band members departed and from there on the band continued as a duo. Let's also mention here that all the Demo CDs have been recorded with a drum machine (if this means anything to some of you).
I can't really say that Sempiternus impressed me with their music. Their Doom/Death Metal sounded too stagnant to my ears and the bad production didn't help me at all. There are several good ideas but most of them never actually lead anywhere. Once again I think that the most damage here is caused by the weak production. The style the band is trying to deliver demands a very powerful production and power is one of the things missing here. Too bad because even those good ideas evident are swamped by the sound.
All in all I think the band still needs time to craft a more personal sound. They also need time to sodomise the producer of their Demo.
