"Thunder Advocate" is a reissue of the 1990 EP from SEEKER.  Recorded the previous year, this is a time capsule from a bygone age of Sleaze and Hair Metal, all Aviator Shades, spandex, dudes in makeup and choreographed stage moves.  Although the band were from Philadelphia, we could be hanging on the Strip with MOTLEY CRUE, KEEL, LA GUNS and many other wannabes of the times gone by.  It wasn't long after the original release that times and musical tastes changed and the mullets, perms, leather pants and jackets with the widest shoulder pads you could find were replaced by the check shirts, ripped jeans of the Grunge generation.

You can certainly tell what era from the get go. "Thunder Advocate", a child of the 80's through and through, the guitars, the vocals, the sound in general evoke a moment in time.  "The Prophet" carries on in exactly the same way, I can see the shapes the lead guitarist would be throwing during the big solo, the singer putting in all his efforts to hit the, very high notes, which he does fairly well.

The 3rd track "Midnight Tide", had me reaching for a lighter to wave (as it couldn't be my mobile phone, whilst they existed, the average fan would not have had one, and you probably couldn't lift it up and wave it about they were that heavy!).  I am sorry but this sounds dated, even to me, who would have been listening to their contemporaries back in the day.  It's the keyboard sound that does it. Again "Metal Rage" is of its time, but stands up the decades much better as does the last track "Feel The Thunder".

The 80's are coming back baby, you only need to look at the CRUE, POISON, LEP's enormo-tour happening this summer, and it's a shame the Hair Metal standard bearers now are a joke band (yes you, STEEL PANTHER). The remaster is very well done.  The sound is very clear and balanced, but still very dated. An enjoyable listen, but it is like listening to a museum piece.  I had fun reviewing it, but I'm not going to come back to it in 6 months time, but for now lets party like its 1989.
