Screaming Banshee - Descent album cover

Where I usually don't like the vocals, as used on "Descent", this album knows how to deliver them. Although the alternation between styles of vocals may have been their Achilles heel, this band has a future within the Metal.

The first part, "After The Nightfall", is good. One hell of a 6-minute opening song, consistent of good vocals, great guitars and an overall well constructed feeling. The second song, with more of the above-mentioned vocal changes, is "When The Stars Come Right". This one has amazing guitar work. Seriously, between Brendon Small's epic style of playing and the abstract ANIMALS AS LEADERS, this kind of guitar work is well placed and coordinated. The same goes for the near BEYOND CREATION style drum work, found on the entire album as well.

The overall performance is just overwhelmingly good. The progressiveness; alternation between speed as found on "Messiah In Blood", the amazing skills of the instrumentalists, the daring, sometimes compromising vocal work, which has its amazing heights on this album, the melodic feel sometimes found at the slower parts, and above all, just the well rounded feeling. Like music umami, perfection in taste.

The one song that really did it for this album was "Anhedonic". If perfection will ever be reached, this will be one of the closest you will get to it now. The amazing guitar work, solo work between the incredibly skilled guitarists, and the well playing bassist are enhanced with the damn fine drum work found here. The alterations, as on the rest of the album, make it worth the listen on the long run. This is the perfect example of why you should listen to this album. It has the right pace, and when it slows down, it will go fast again, but nuanced. Well orchestrated in this environment of skill.

And let's not forget the last, but definitely not least, eight minute ending piece, "Ghost Incarnate". Another style, as it seems, but once again a very well constructed piece of art. Well. Let me not spoil this too much for you. This album is one you will have to hear for yourself. Enjoy.<
