Screamer - Adrenaline Distractions album cover

NWOBHM or is it NWOSHM? Though there were a lot more British bands back in the period between 1979-1983, the Swedes are out to reach those same numbers in full throttle. This here album, "Adrenaline Distractions", the debut of the local SCREAMER, via High Roller Records, joins the growing line of young old school followers of Heavy Metal. On part of the list there are ENFORCER, STEELWING, RAM, HELVETETS PORT and KATANA just to set your heads straight. All that is left for me to hope that unlike many old UK groups that turned out as short lived projects, that SCREAMER and the others will hang on.

In overall, "Adrenaline Distractions" is a fine Heavy Metal raising the flag of the 80s. As expected, SCREAMER hammered with divine rhythms that although being the key of nearly any band of the sorts, it's good that those are there. The twin guitar axes provided well written lead guitar licks that ended up in several impressive solos and harmonies. Aside from that the music also leads to several late 70s associations, such as a few of the beats and some of the vocal rhythms, which are connected to vintage Hard Rock than Metal. Let's just say it was the icing on the cake.

All in all, even as a pure 80s fan, SCREAMER didn't really entice me. I liked their efforts on this album as they delivered several hits like "Adrenaline Distractions", "Rock Bottom", "Screamer", "All Over Again" and the closing of "Never Going Down". However, there were more than a few examples of overly repeating stuff that I have been hearing in too many opportunities with albums of the same genre. On the other hand, I think that this album is doing justice to what the British began more than three decades ago.

Fans of NWOBHM would definitely like to check this one out. This crew is very talented and is trying to avoid the trends that so many bands entrap themselves in. NWOSHM makes me wonder if the pupil wills outtake his teacher, an interesting thought nonetheless.
